Support people fleeing conflict

Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

The people in Ukraine are facing unimaginable suffering. The violence is escalating, with devastating loss of life. Please donate what you can today and help us respond to this growing humanitarian crisis.

How your donation could help

  • A pile of rolled up blankets on the back of an open trailer

    Provide people with essentials

Your donation can help our partners provide people with essential items like food parcels, blankets, menstrual products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, nappies, and cooking utensils.

  • Two fully assembled Handwashing stands in the Oxfam warehouse with boxes stamped with the Oxfam logo that have water tank components in them in the background.

    Help people stay healthy

We are setting up handwashing stations and toilets, including ones that are accessible for people with diabilities, and showers, and working with partners to provide psycho-social support.

  • Cans being packed into boxes by volunteers

    Support partner organisations

Your donation means we can work with organisations who are already working with people from Ukraine to help meet their needs. They have already lost so much.

How will Oxfam be responding?

Oxfam is working with partners in countries bordering Ukraine, including Moldova, Romania and Poland. These partners will lead on projects that Oxfam supports.

This means the people we support, who have fled the violence in Ukraine, will get the safety and resources they need to survive and rebuild their lives. Our partners aim to create a long-lasting positive impact at community-level too.

Partner organisations in countries people are fleeing to can adapt fast. So the changing needs of both those who’ve been forced to flee, and the communities who host them, can be met more quickly. This helps develop lasting solutions.

Our activities with partners currently range from:

  • Sharing information with refugees at border points and providing access to reliable information through hotlines and social media
  • Distributing the resources that people need to survive today, including food parcels and hygiene kits
  • Setting up handwashing stations and toilets, including ones that are accessible for people with disabilities, and showers.
  • Providing psycho-social support and advice to help people to deal with what they are going through.
  • Access to legal aid so that people arriving from Ukraine can receive support and learn about their rights.
  • Focusing on the needs of vulnerable groups and minorities, including Roma, LGBTQIA+, women travelling with young children and people with disabilities

In Poland, Oxfam is working with partners to support in a number of ways.

  • We've set up handwashing stations, toilets including ones that are accessible for people with disabilities, and showers.
  • We are also beginning to work with local partners to provide shelter and education services, including lots of work that is helping refugees to integrate into, and be included by, the local community
  • Our partners provide access to reliable information through hotline and social media, so that people arriving from Ukraine can receive legal and psycho-social support, and learn about their rights.
  • We’re supporting an education and outreach program for local authorities.

We’re aiming to promote better cooperation between local authorities, civil society organisations, local communities and people who have become refugees themselves.

In Moldova, Oxfam is working with partners to support people by:

  • Providing emergency food parcels to those who need it most.
  • Providing travel boxes containing things like water bottles, a hot placinta – a kind of vegetable-filled Moldovan pie – bread, towels, and telephone SIM cards.
  • Offering specialist psycho-social support and legal support.
  • Helping to keep those people who are at an increased risk of gender-based violence and human trafficking safe.

In Romania, Oxfam is working with partners to support people by:

  • Sharing information with refugees at border points and mapping the flow of people across the border.
  • Distributing the resources that people need to survive today, including emergency food parcels and hygiene kits

Oxfam’s partners in Romania are focusing particularly on vulnerable groups and minorities, including Roma, LGBTQIA +, women travelling with young children and people with disabilities

How we spend your money

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.

Frequently asked questions

Clothes and blankets are among the many items we can sell in our shops here to raise funds, but Oxfam does not send clothes and blankets overseas, however good their condition.

Often this is not cost effective. Shipping also takes time. What people give today might not be what people need tomorrow. Wherever possible, Oxfam buys items locally or from countries in the affected region. This stimulates the local economy and has a lower environmental impact.

That's why making a cash donation is one of the most effective ways to support.

We deeply appreciate anyone’s desire to support our work and would love for you to volunteer in one of our shops too. Our shop volunteers include those who have been forced to flee conflict and disaster, so they provide a way to welcome people in our communities.
