Support people surviving drought and floods

East Africa Crisis

Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia are facing one of the worst droughts in history. South Sudan has suffered a fifth year of severe flooding. It's a major emergency, and widespread food shortages are being made worse by climate extremes, Covid-19, and conflict.

We're working with our partners across the four countries to support people. But we need your help to do more.

You can support people to

  • A glass of water with water pouring into it

Survive today with fresh clean water and sanitation

Repairing water systems and supplying water by truck helps people keep crops and livestock watered, while hygiene kits help prevent Covid-19 and other disease.

  • A stack of Somalian banknotes

Prepare for tomorrow with cash transfers and emergency food packages

Cash transfers help people buy household essentials, and emergency food packages contain items such as flour, rice, lentils and cooking oil.

  • A pair of hands hold seeds

Adapt for the future by farming for a changing climate

In a changing climate, drought resistant seeds and new farming practices can help people to prepare for extreme weather.

How we spend your money

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.

Thank God I am alive… I fell from my wheelchair many times on my way here.”
